Today, we are living in a time where we possess best of everything when compared with our ancestors. The fruit of economic development is being enjoyed by millions of people acros the globe. Today, I can do all those things which in past were considered impossible. But why is it that still a vast majority of section of our society is deprived of the most basic necessities that are quintessential for a life to sustain?
Why today more than 2 billlion people don't have the luxury to eat three times a day when you and me can have a yummy pizza at Pizza Hut on a friday evening? Surpirsingly, this is happening at a time when there has been huge advancement in agricultural technology!!! Today we are thinking of growing crops without using water. Organic farming is fastly catching up with traditional farming. I was surprised to know that the total amount of food being wasted by Western nations is about 270 MT/year. This is nearly the annual food requirement of WHOLE OF AFRICA!!!
More than 340 million people in India don't get electricity and sunset brings complete darkness in their life. Their life which has already lost hope from inside becomes utterly dark from outside also.
Never before so many options were available to our society to express itself than they are avialble today. With Social sites, Internet, Telephone, Mobile, Video chat, Newspaper, Television and what not. But Why today we so many people are suffering from depression just because there is nobody who can lend an ear to their problems? Why today a human life is feeling isolated? Why the feeling of harmonious community is fading away?
Why is that half of the global population survies on less than $2.5 a day when 75% of global income is earned by just 20% of Rich people? Why nearly 22,000 children die every day because of lack of adequate food and they live in such far off places on earth that no body pays attention towards them!!!
I am not against any kind of development that is taking place. All I am worried about is that why there is a differentation in enjoying the fruits of development, where in, one gets in abundacnce of everthing and the other die out of starvation or lack of facilities.
It is extremely important to realize a simple fact that every resource we use is not available to us for eternity. So sooner or later, our way of life & way of thinking has to change. We will not be able to maintian same kind of economic development for years to come.
